Red wine and whisky rarely meet in the same bottle, but the Age of Discovery series was created exactly to explore that kind of unusual combination.

    Expert description

Glenfiddich 19 Years Old Age of Discovery Red Wine Cask is a Single Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky matured in ex-bourbon casks finished in red wine casks and bottled at 40%. The whisky matures for 19 years in ex-bourbon casks before being finished in casks that previously held red wine. That adds a deep, fruity character with a touch of tannin, clearly setting it apart from the other expressions in the Age of Discovery series.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dark berries, toasted oak and a light wine-like tang.

    Palate

Rich and fruity with blackcurrant, spiced oak and a light tannin edge.

    Finish

Medium and dry, with a final hint of dark berries.

    Did you know?

Red wine casks are among the rarest cask types in Scotch whisky production, because the wine's tannins can dominate the flavour if the finish runs too long — a balance Glenfiddich's whisky makers have fine-tuned carefully.
