Glen Moray has been making whisky in Elgin since 1897. This Speyside starts out in American oak and ends its days in Spanish sherry casks, where dried fruit, nuts and warm spice move in.
Expert description
Glen Moray Sherry Cask Finish is a Speyside Single Malt Whisky matured in American oak casks, finished in Oloroso sherry casks from Jerez and bottled at 40%.
Oloroso is the dark, dry style of sherry, and that is what the casks held before. The whisky gets its main maturation in American oak, which brings the vanilla. At the end it is moved into the sherry casks, which add dried fruit, nuts and dark chocolate. The result is a Single Malt Whisky where the sweetness of the oak is still there, but the sherry sits clearly up front. There is no age statement on the bottle.
The distillery is owned by La Martiniquaise, and this is an original bottling from Glen Moray itself.
