Deep dark blackcurrant liqueur from Burgundy - powerful, tart and built on one of France's most prized blackcurrant varieties.
Expert's Description
Giffard's Cassis Noir de Bourgogne Premium Liqueur is a French Fruit liqueur based on blackcurrant, bottled at 20% ABV.
Giffard is a French, family-owned liqueur house from Angers in the Loire Valley, founded in 1885 by the pharmacist and herbalist Émile Giffard, who invented a white mint liqueur with digestive properties. Its success led him to convert his pharmacy into a distillery, and today - five generations later - the house is still family-run, producing more than 60 fruit and herbal liqueurs for bartenders and cocktail enthusiasts around the world. The liqueur is part of the Giffard Premium Liqueurs range, ten top-quality liqueurs created to be the leading flavour in a cocktail, where the origin of each main ingredient is carefully selected and guaranteed. The liqueur is made through slow maceration of "Cassis Noir de Bourgogne", an old and prized blackcurrant variety harvested in the Loire Valley, with complexity further enhanced by an infusion of blackcurrant buds.
Taste
The colour is deep, dark burgundy red with violet hues. The nose is intensely fruity with blackcurrant, green notes and a touch of woodiness, while the palate is rich and at the same time wonderfully tart, with intense, indulgent sweetness from ripe blackcurrant balanced by a fresh acidity and faint woody tannins.
