Ten years in bourbon casks at an unusually high natural strength — this release is a good example of just how intense a relatively young Edradour can become.

    The expert's description

Edradour 2012/2022 Bourbon Cask 10 years old is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in bourbon casks and bottled at 59.6%.

The whisky was distilled on 8 February 2012 and matured for 10 years across eight selected bourbon casks before being bottled in February 2022. The relatively young age combined with a high natural cask strength gives the whisky a fresh, intense character, where the bourbon cask's vanilla and sweetness come through clearly. 1,783 bottles were released.

Edradour's whisky has traditionally had a heavier, more oily texture than many other Highland malts — a result of the slow, old-fashioned distillation methods the distillery still uses.

Frequently asked questions about Edradour 2012/2022 Bourbon Cask 10 yo

Why is the strength so high on this release?

The whisky is bottled at natural cask strength without dilution, giving it a more intense and concentrated flavour profile.

    How many bottles exist?

1,783 bottles were drawn from the eight bourbon casks.

Is 10 years young for an Edradour?

It's a typical age for the distillery's independent bottlings, but the high cask strength still makes the whisky feel full and mature.

    Should water be added?

A small splash of water is recommended for most, as it opens up the aromas without losing the intensity.

    Is it peated?

No, this is Edradour's unpeated core style.

Would this whisky suit someone who likes powerful cask strength whiskies?

Yes, the high strength and fresh bourbon character make it a good choice for enthusiasts seeking intensity.
