De Molen Craft Beer

A Dutch brewery that brews its intense, dark beer in the shadow of a real, working windmill. De Molen shuns the mild and goes for the extreme - high alcohol, heavy hops, deep malt. This is beer for those who want to be challenged, not just soothed.

  • Dark beer can with whisky barrel-aged Imperial Stout from De Molen
    Item no.: 059763-615-390

Balcones is Texan whisky with attitude - raw, powerful and unforgiving. The same can be said of the Imperial Stout allowed to rest in its barrels.

Expert description of De Molen Barrel Aged Balcones Edition 2023 Imperial Stout

Balcones Edition 2023 is a heavy Imperial Stout at 11.4% from the Dutch brewery De Molen, aged in barrels from the Texan whisky distillery Balcones. The barrel ageing adds distinct notes of vanilla, caramel and a raw, grainy whisky character on top of the stout's deep base of roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee.

De Molen is a Dutch brewery from Bodegraven, founded in 2004 by Menno Olivier and named after the historic windmill "De Arkduif" from 1697, where the brewery is based. De Molen is known internationally for intense, boundary-pushing specialty beers and an ambitious barrel-ageing programme - but the brewery ceased production on 1 October 2025, making these bottles part of the last vintages it will ever brew.

Calvados and Saison sound like an odd couple - Normandy apple brandy meeting Belgian farmhouse ale. At De Molen, it becomes something else entirely.

Expert description of De Molen Barrel Aged Calvados Edition 2023 Strong Saison

Calvados Edition 2023 is a powerful Strong Saison at 13.1% from the Dutch brewery De Molen, aged in barrels that previously held Calvados - French apple brandy from Normandy. The barrel ageing adds distinct apple and pear notes plus a warm, brandy-like depth on top of the Saison style's characteristic spice and dry, yeasty freshness.

Grand Cru is really a term from the world of wine - the best grapes from the best vineyards. De Molen borrows the term for a beer that lives up to the name.

Expert description of De Molen Barrel Aged Grand Cru Edition 2023

Grand Cru Edition 2023 is a barrel-aged, Belgian-inspired Grand Cru at 10.4% from the Dutch brewery De Molen. The style draws on the classic Belgian Grand Cru tradition - a full-bodied, complex beer with round malt sweetness, spiced yeast character and a deep, warm alcohol profile, enhanced by the barrel ageing's addition of vanilla, dried fruit and a lightly oxidative, sherry-like depth.

Expert description of De Molen Barrel Aged Wild Turkey Edition 2023 Wheat Wine

Wild Turkey Edition 2023 is a barrel-aged Wheat Wine at 10.6% from the Dutch brewery De Molen, part of the brewery's ambitious Barrel Aged series. About De Molen Craft Beer

De Molen is a Dutch microbrewery that brews its beer in and around a historic windmill, giving the brewery its name and unique identity. For the curious, it's a great chance to meet the more extreme end of the beer world - imperial stouts and barley wines well beyond ordinary strength. For collectors, De Molen's cask-aged special releases, often in very limited numbers, have become some of the most sought-after among European beer collectors, chasing rare bottles the way whisky collectors chase single casks.

History & Background

The brewery was founded in 2004 in Bodegraven, the Netherlands, and has since built an international reputation for its intense, often extremely powerful specialty beers. Founder Menno Olivier converted an old, working windmill into a brewery, giving De Molen ('the mill' in Dutch) both its name and identity. The brewery quickly became known for pushing the limits of how powerful beer could be, and has since won numerous international awards and built a loyal following of collectors who track every new release.

Production & Style

De Molen is known for pushing the boundaries of alcohol content, hop bitterness and malt intensity, often with barrel-aged versions of its darkest beers.

Signature Style

Intense, Dark, Powerful
The taste offers a powerful, often extreme character that challenges traditional boundaries between beer styles.
