From a 2010 harvest right up to today, this wine has rested quietly in oak in Vila Nova de Gaia. It is the youngest Colheita in Dalva's current range – yet still mature enough to carry its own vintage year with pride.

    Expert's Description

Dalva 2010 Colheita is a Portuguese Colheita Port – a single-harvest Tawny Port from the Douro Valley – bottled at 20%.

To be called a Colheita, a Port must spend at least seven years in cask – this vintage has had ample time beyond that minimum requirement to develop the nutty, oxidative character the style is known for.

Behind the bottle stands Dalva, the brand of the Port house C. da Silva in Vila Nova de Gaia, founded in 1862 under the name Corrêa Ribeiro e Filhos. The house took on its current identity in 1933, when Clemente da Silva took over the firm, and has since made aged Colheita Port one of its specialities.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose is fresh and fruity with a hint of nuts, and a somewhat lighter character than the older vintages in the range.

    Palate

The palate offers ripe red berries, caramel and a touch of cinnamon, with a lively acidity that gives the wine body without becoming heavy.

    Finish

The finish is medium-length and warm, closing on a final note of dried fruit.

    Investment Potential

As the youngest Colheita in the range, the 2010 vintage has a more modest collecting potential than the house's older bottles, but the principle is the same: every bottle comes from a harvest that will never happen again, and interest typically grows as the vintage itself grows older.

    Did You Know?

Every bottle of Colheita carries an official certification seal from the Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e Porto, guaranteeing that the stated harvest year is genuine – a check that has historically helped secure trust in this particular Port style.

It must come from a single harvest and spend at least seven years in oak cask before it can be bottled and labelled with the vintage year.

Is the bottle suitable as a gift?

Yes, a Colheita with a specific harvest year like 2010 is fitting for anniversaries and birthdays that coincide with the vintage.
