In Guanajuato, where Mexico's independence hero Miguel Hidalgo was born, stands one of the country's most unusual tequila houses. Here the tequila is distilled not twice, but three times, a craft that gives Corralejo Reposado its remarkably soft character.
Expert Description
Corralejo Reposado Triple Distilled is a Mexican Reposado Tequila made from 100% agave, triple distilled and bottled at 38%.
Tequila Corralejo is distilled at Hacienda de Corralejo in Pénjamo, Guanajuato, one of the few tequila houses located outside Jalisco. The hacienda dates back to the 1700s and is the birthplace of Mexican independence hero Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla. In 1996, Leonardo Rodríguez Moreno took over the dilapidated hacienda and rebuilt it into the distillery that today ships tequila to more than 100 countries. The agave is cooked in traditional clay ovens before being distilled three times using the so-called Charentais method, a technique borrowed from cognac production, resulting in an unusually soft and clean tequila. After distillation it rests for about four months in a mix of American, French and Mexican oak barrels.
