Orange peel on the counter, caramel bubbling in the pan and the cherry sauce warming on the stove. Caribbean Bay Navidad is the bottle that comes out when the coffee is poured on Christmas Eve. Dark, sweet and carrying a little Caribbean sunshine into the middle of a Scandinavian December.
Expert's description
Caribbean Bay Navidad is a rum-based Christmas Spirit Drink from the Caribbean, bottled at 35% in a 50 cl bottle. It's the festive release in the Caribbean Bay series, joining siblings like Carmelita, Tropicana, Estrella and Mariposa.
The rum comes from the Caribbean and is shipped to Denmark, where it's blended and finished in the sweet, creamy style the whole series is built on. The name Caribbean Bay nods to the bay from which rum and other colonial goods were once sent out across the world.
For Christmas, the blend gets fresh orange peel, rich caramel fudge and creamy vanilla. Because it sits at 35% and is flavoured, EU rules don't allow it to be called rum, since rum needs at least 37.5%. That's why it's labelled a Spirit Drink. The bottle holds 50 cl, which the producer says is just right for a sweet tooth. Or two.
Tasting notes
Taste
Orange peel leads, fresh and fragrant. Then a thick layer of caramel fudge settles over everything, and creamy vanilla rounds it off. It's sweet, no question, but there's a dark, juicy depth underneath that keeps it from tasting like candy in a glass.
