Caraway, a touch of cinnamon and a hint of orange peel - the scent that has greeted Danes at the lunch table since 1840. Brøndum Kummen is the powerful original, the snaps that started it all.

    The Expert's Description

Brøndum Dansk Snaps Kummen Akvavit is a Danish akvavit at 45% ABV, spiced with caraway and made to a recipe that has barely changed since 1840.

Anthon Brøndum founded his distillery in Snaregade, Copenhagen, in 1840, and the caraway snaps launched that same year. It's regarded today as the oldest surviving snaps in Denmark. Where most other Brøndum bottlings sit at 40%, Kummen is turned up in both strength and spice - the boldest, fullest expression in the family, built to carry a heavy dose of caraway without being overwhelmed by it.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Bold, spicy aroma of caraway, supported by a light sweetness from cinnamon and a hint of orange peel.

    Palate

Full, warm flavour dominated by caraway, where cinnamon adds roundness and orange peel a fresh counterpoint to the spice.

    Finish

Long, spicy finish where caraway and cinnamon linger well after each sip.
