Moscatel is the second of the sherry triangle's sweet sun-dried grapes - less famous than Pedro Ximénez, but with its own fresh, grapey sweetness.
Expert's Description
Bodegas Gutierrez Colosia Sherry Moscatel Soleado is a Sherry from El Puerto de Santa María, Spain made from 100% Moscatel grapes, bottled at 16.5% ABV.
Soleado means "sun-drenched" and refers to the grapes being sun-dried before pressing, which concentrates the sweetness. Unlike PX sherry's deep raisin character, Moscatel has a fresher, more grapey and aromatic profile, with a lively acidic edge that gives the wine backbone.
