Between the vineyards of Baden and the dense fir forests of the Black Forest lie the sources Belsazar draws from. The White is the gentlest, warmest member of the family - like a late summer evening where honey and vanilla slowly melt into the warmth of spice.

    Expert's Description

Belsazar Vermouth White Germany is a German White Vermouth at 18%, created by Maximilian Wagner and Sebastian Brack, who established Belsazar in Berlin in 2013. The vermouth is named after Sixtus Balthasar Schladerer, founder of the family-run distillery in Staufen im Breisgau in the Black Forest.

The wine is sourced from the South Baden districts of Markgraeflerland and Kaiserstuhl and fortified with Schladerer's fruit brandy. Twenty botanicals - including vanilla, cardamom and orange peel - are weighed and infused individually before the vermouth matures in stoneware vessels for up to three months, preserving the pure character of the botanicals.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Honey, white grapes and peach meet green apple and orange zest, spiced with almond, vanilla, clove, cardamom and garam masala.

    Palate

A light sweetness of honey and vanilla meets wine-like acidity, bitter orange, an underlying wormwood bitterness and warm festive spice.

    Finish

Honeyed with citrus acidity, wormwood bitterness and a closing note of clove.
