From Bierzo in northwestern Spain comes this juicy, elegant Mencía - a project closely tied to the acclaimed Palacios family.
Expert's Description
Alvaro Palacios Pétalos del Bierzo 2023 is a Red Wine from Bierzo, Spain made from 100% Mencía, bottled at 13.5% ABV.
The wine is produced by Descendientes de J. Palacios, the Palacios family's project in Bierzo, where Alvaro Palacios's nephew Ricardo Pérez Palacios oversees the winemaking. The grapes come from old Mencía vines, 40-90 years old, planted in schist and clay soils. The wine ferments in large, old oak vats and then ages briefly in new French barrique, followed by 8 months in older barrels.
