Deep in the soils of the West Indies and Central America lies a rare black variant of the gemstone larimar – as rare as this bottle, of which only 799 examples exist worldwide.

    Expert Description

A.H. Riise Black Gem Collection Black Larimar is a rum-based Spirit Drink bottled at 45.2%.

The bottle is the second release in A.H. Riise's Black Gem Collection, following Black Coral, and is named after the rare black larimar stone found deep in the soils of the West Indies and Central America. Behind the A.H. Riise name today stands the company Old St. Croix, which officially changed its name in June 2025. Black Larimar is a finely layered premium blend, characterised by an elaborate cask programme that gives the bottle multiple layers of complexity. It was bottled in 2024 in a limited run of 799 individually numbered bottles.

Frequently Asked Questions about A.H. Riise Black Gem Collection Black Larimar

What is the Black Gem Collection?

It is a series of exclusive premium releases from A.H. Riise, where each bottle is named after a rare gemstone. Black Larimar is the second release in the series, following Black Coral.

How many bottles exist of Black Larimar?

799 individually numbered bottles were produced of this edition.

Why is the bottle called a Spirit Drink and not a rum?

Because the sugar content exceeds the EU limit of 20 grams per litre for products labelled as rum, it is officially sold as a rum-based spirit drink.

Are A.H. Riise and Old St. Croix the same company?

Yes, A.H. Riise officially changed its name to Old St. Croix in June 2025, but products under the original name are still sold.

Why is the rum named after a stone?

The name refers to the rare black larimar stone from the West Indies and Central America, which shares both a name and a sense of rarity with the bottle.

How should this bottle be served?

Best neat in a cognac glass at room temperature, ideally on a special occasion where the many flavour layers can be enjoyed slowly.
