  • Bottle of Poli Arzente Italian brandy with rustic label and golden liquid
    Item no.: 22227865479-110

Once, the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio suggested Italianising the French word Cognac into something more native: Acquarzente, later shortened to Arzente. Poli embraced the name and built a brandy that insists on being Italian down to the last detail, from the grape to the final year in oak.

    Expert's Description

Poli Arzente Italiano Brandy is an Italian Brandy from the Jacopo Poli distillery, bottled at 40%.

Behind the bottle stands the Poli family, who have distilled in Schiavon near Bassano del Grappa in the Veneto since 1898, one of Italy's most respected regions for grape distillates. Across four generations the family has kept faith with an old copper alembic, one of the few of its kind still in use, giving the distillates their characteristic balance of power and elegance.

Arzente is made from 100% Trebbiano grapes and sets itself apart from the house's better-known grappa by being a grape brandy in the Cognac style rather than a pomace distillate. The name Arzente comes from an old Italian term that, according to tradition, dates back to the time of Catherine de' Medici, when a similar distillate was used as a fortifying drink.

The brandy is aged for a full ten years, spread across French Limousin casks, French Allier oak and Slovenian oak, a combination that gives it the layered depth the house is known for.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Vanilla, warm spice and dried fruit, with an underlying sweetness from the years spent in oak.

    Palate

Round and elegant, with a pleasant warmth and a ripe, grape-driven sweetness that stays balanced without turning heavy.

    Finish

Long, with a final trace of spiced wood and a gentle, lingering warmth.

    Item no.: 22227865491-75-2

Five centilitres is enough to get acquainted, without committing to a full bottle. Inside the small bottle sits the same plum marmalade and toffee found in its bigger sibling, just packed down to pocket size.

    Expert's Description

Remy Martin Miniature 1738 Accord Royal is a French Cognac of the Fine Champagne category, bottled at 40% in a 5 CL bottle.

The miniature holds exactly the same liquid as the full-size Accord Royal bottle: a blend of at least 60% eaux-de-vie from Grande Champagne and the rest from Petite Champagne, all from Remy Martin, the house that has brewed exclusively Fine Champagne Cognac since 1724.

The format makes it well suited for tasting your way in, bringing along on travels, or lining up alongside other miniatures for a small tasting at home. Nothing about the experience is diluted, only the quantity differs.

Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche and Colombard from the chalky soil of Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne give it the same round, creamy character as the full-size bottle, just in a dose that is easy to share or enjoy alone.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Plum and fig marmalade appear alongside toffee and a hint of toasted bread, just as in the full-size bottle.

  • Bottle of Remy Martin VSOP Red Label Cognac with copper-toned liquid and red label
    Item no.: 22227865491-vsop

Somewhere in the world right now, a Remy Martin VSOP is being poured. It happens more often than most would guess, since this is the VSOP most people reach for when the glass calls for copper-toned Cognac and the scent of vanilla and red roses.

    Expert's Description

Remy Martin VSOP Red Label is a French VSOP Cognac of the Fine Champagne category, bottled at 40%, with an average age of around 8 years.

The blend is composed of at least 60% eaux-de-vie from Grande Champagne, the rest from Petite Champagne, using grapes mainly Ugni Blanc supplemented by Folle Blanche and Colombard from the house's chalky soils.

Remy Martin was founded in 1724 and has held ever since to using only Fine Champagne Cognac across its range. VSOP Red Label is the bottle through which most people meet the house, and it is often used as a benchmark when professionals assess other VSOP cognacs against one another.

The colour is dark copper with a golden sheen, a sign of the time the liquid has spent in Limousin oak casks, where the soft vanilla and nutty notes are drawn from.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose offers vanilla, nuts, violets and roses, with a fine hint of liquorice and spiced Limousin oak underneath.

    Palate

The palate is fruity with apricot and peach leading, softly rounded off by sweet vanilla.

    Finish

The finish is medium-length and classically balanced, where vanilla and a hint of nuts are the last things to remain.

  • Bottle of Renault Avec Cognac with classic label and amber liquid
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197279847

Some Cognac is made to sit with alone, and some is made to share with a cup of coffee. Renault Avec was built for the latter: a Cognac whose cask has been steamed and roasted over open fire until its mocha and vanilla notes are strong enough to meet coffee's bitterness without losing ground.

    Expert's Description

Renault Avec French Cognac is a Cognac from the house of Renault, bottled at 40%.

The name Avec, French for "together with", tells you exactly what the bottle is made for: a Cognac designed to be taken alongside a cup of coffee after a meal, a tradition still very much alive in many French homes. To get there, Renault developed a distinctive cask technique in which the oak is first submerged in water and then roasted over an open brasero fire, not once, but three times.

The repeated roasting draws out mocha and vanilla character in the wood that ordinary cask ageing does not, and the result is a Cognac with a softness and roundness built to sit beside an espresso without being drowned out.

The house behind the bottle, Renault, was founded in 1835 in the town of Cognac by Jean-Antonin Renault and was known early on as an innovator, bottling in glass rather than the traditional casks and exporting to Scandinavia as early as 1855.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Roasted mocha, sweet vanilla and a light smoky trace from the triple brasero-roasted casks.

    Palate

Round and soft, with coffee bean, caramel and a warm, faintly sweet echo of toasted wood.

    Finish

Mild and gentle, with vanilla and a touch of dark chocolate that lingers on the palate well after the last sip.

  • Small sample bottle of Daniel Bouju VSOP French cognac
    Item no.: 22227865491-20136

In Saint-Preuil, in the heart of Grande Champagne, the Bouju family has grown its own grapes and distilled its own cognac since 1805. This sample is an invitation to meet one of the smaller, more stubbornly artisanal cognac houses in the district.

    Expert's Description

Sample 3 cl Daniel Bouju VSOP is a French Cognac from Grande Champagne, bottled at 40%.

The house was founded by Pierre Chauvin and his wife Jeanne in 1805, shortly after they settled in Saint-Preuil with only a few hectares of land and vines. Seven generations later, Daniel Bouju remains a true grower-producer – a house that distils only grapes from its own 30 hectares, unlike the large merchant houses that buy in from hundreds of growers.

The cognac is distilled exclusively from Ugni Blanc and aged in Limousin oak, and the house uses neither colouring nor boisé to adjust colour or flavour – what is in the glass comes from the grape, the soil and the cask alone.

The bottle's distinctive carafe shape holds a VSOP that has rested at least 4 years in cask, presenting a calm, grounded expression of Grande Champagne's finesse.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Flowers and fresh grapes, with a light vanilla tone from the young Limousin oak.

    Palate

Soft and direct, with notes of white fruit and a fine acidity that speaks of the unaltered Ugni Blanc base wine.

Not every cognac needs a year or a classification to tell its story. Sometimes it is enough to know which soil the grapes grew in – and here we are talking about Grande Champagne itself.

    Expert's Description

Segonzac Premium is a French Cognac from Grande Champagne, bottled at 40%.

The Pierre de Segonzac cognac house has roots back to 1702, when ancestor Jacques Ferrand distilled his first harvest at the Biard estate. Today the house is run on eleven generations of experience and nearly 10 hectares of its own vineyards in the very village of Segonzac, the heart of Grande Champagne 1er Cru.

Segonzac Premium is the house's entry point into the range – a cognac distilled on the house's own property with the same traditional Charentais copper stills and the same hand-guided "bonne chauffe" technique used for its more aged bottlings.

The result is an approachable yet characterful cognac, where the finesse of Grande Champagne's chalky soil can still be traced.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

  • Bottle of Skærsøgaard 2007 Cask Strength Danish brandy with dark golden colour
    Item no.: 22227865491-1102

On the slopes at Dons, near Kolding, Sven Moesgaard planted his first 4,000 vines in 1998. What began as Denmark's first authorised vineyard has since made room for something far rarer in a Danish context: a brandy distilled from its own grapes and bottled at full cask strength.

    Expert's Description

Skærsøgaard 2007 Cask Strength is a Danish Brandy distilled from Danish grapes, bottled at 62%.

In 2000, Skærsøgaard Vin became the first Danish vineyard with EU approval, and since 2006 it has, alongside wine, also produced its own spirits and fruit wines across its 5.5 hectares. This brandy comes from the 2007 vintage and is distilled from Skærsøgaard's own grapes, grown in the long Jutland summer light which, according to the vineyard, gives the grapes a slow, aromatic ripening.

The spirit has matured for 8 years in oak casks and is bottled without dilution, at full cask strength – a style that shows the distillate completely unfiltered, with all the intensity it has built up in the cask.

As a Limited Edition, this 2007 vintage offers a rare glimpse of what Danish terroir can produce when distilled rather than turned into wine.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Intense grape sweetness and warm oak, with a powerful alcohol weight that underlines the cask strength.

    Palate

Full and concentrated, with dried fruit, caramel and a distinct warmth from the 62%.

Close to the North Sea, where the light and soil are made for apples, Vesterhavsmost presses fresh must from single-variety apples – and from the same orchard the TONOW distillery makes a brandy that was named Danish Distillery of the Year in 2022.

    Expert's Description

Tonow Santana Brandy is a Danish Brandy distilled by Vesterhavsmost, bottled at 42%.

Vesterhavsmost's philosophy is simple: only single-variety, freshly picked apples in season, grown close to the North Sea, where the climate, soil and light are, according to the producer, ideal for fruit growing. 99% of the apple harvest goes into cider must, while a smaller share is passed on to the TONOW distillery, which turns the fruit into brandy.

This Santana edition won a silver medal and stands as a clear example of what a small Danish distillery can achieve when the fruit and the craft come from the same field.

Nothing from the must production is wasted – the leftover pulp is dried and used for bread and muesli, underlining the resource-conscious thinking behind the whole production.

    Tasting Notes

  • Triangular bottle of Vecchia Romagna Etichetta Nera Italian brandy
    Item no.: 22227865480-67093-0344

When the French expatriate Jean Buton settled in Bologna in 1820 and set up an experimental distillery, he could hardly have imagined that his triangular bottle would one day become the very symbol of Italian brandy.

    Expert's Description

Vecchia Romagna Etichetta Nera is an Italian Brandy distilled from Trebbiano grapes, bottled at 38%.

Buton's experimental distillery grew in 1830 into Distilleria G. Buton & C., described by the house itself as Italy's first steam-powered distillery. The name Vecchia Romagna only arrived in 1939, the same year the distinctive triangular bottle and the Bacchus label were introduced, and both remain the house's trademarks today.

The brandy is distilled from Trebbiano grapes and aged in oak through a double distillation process that gives it a character clearly distinct from both French and Spanish brandy.

Since 1999 the house has been part of the Montenegro spirits group, but production still takes place in the Emilia-Romagna region, where it all began.

    Tasting Notes

  • Vecchia Romagna Riserva Tre Botti Italian Brandy 70 cl 40.8%
    Item no.: 22223-0377

In the old cellars of Bologna, where Vecchia Romagna has been ageing its brandies since 1820, one bottle brings together three different cask types in a single blend. Riserva Tre Botti isn't just another Italian brandy – it's the house's signature method, distilled into a single glass.

    Expert Description

Vecchia Romagna Riserva Tre Botti is an Italian Brandy aged in French oak barriques, large Slovenian oak casks and casks that previously held Italian red wine, bottled at 40.8%. The brandy is distilled from Trebbiano grapes using a method that combines continuous column distillation with discontinuous Charentais pot still distillation, and it carries the name Vecchia Romagna – "the old Romagna" – used by the house since 1939. The story goes back further still: the distillery was founded in 1820 by the French émigré Jean Buton, whose family had produced spirits in France until the fall of Napoleon. In Bologna, he built his own distillery and laid the foundation for what is today Italy's best-selling brandy. Since 1999, the house has belonged to Gruppo Montenegro.

What makes Tre Botti special is exactly the three casks in its name. The small French barriques give structure and a distinct woody character. The large Slovenian oak casks soften the brandy and give it a rounder body. And the casks from Italian red wine production add the brandy's signature fruitiness and velvety softness. Spirits aged up to 15 years go into the blend, and the result is a brandy that brings power and gentleness together at once – a familiar profile for anyone who knows the house's wider Riserva range, but with a character entirely its own.

    Tasting Notes

Benjamin Baker flew fighter jets for the British Royal Air Force before trading the cockpit for cellars full of old casks in 2012. Today he and his wife Marie hunt down rare single casks, often from undisclosed distilleries, and bottle them under the name WV Baker & Cie.

    Expert's Description

WV Baker & Cie 2023 Rare Brandy is a Single Cask Spanish Brandy, bottled at 40%.

While WV Baker & Cie is primarily known as an independent cognac bottler with roots in Fins Bois, the house has also specialised in tracking down distinctive single casks beyond France – including this Spanish brandy, one of the house's more unusual releases made in collaboration with the Danish spirits merchant Juul's.

The cask, named Single Cask N. 932, aged 15 years and was bottled in 2023, yielding exactly 510 bottles – a number that underlines just how limited and cask-specific this release is.

As a single-cask bottling, the brandy is not adjusted or blended with other casks, giving a clean, unaltered view of exactly what this cask gave the spirit over 15 years.
