Local Barley is Springbank's tribute to the ground the whisky comes from - barley grown right in the Campbeltown area, rather than the standardised grain most distilleries use.
Expert Description
Springbank Local Barley 10 Year Old 2022 Edition is a Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky distilled from locally grown barley and bottled at full cask strength, 51.6%.
The Local Barley range is one of Springbank's most sought-after, because it uses barley grown specifically in the area surrounding Campbeltown, unlike the distillery's standard releases. Only a very limited quantity has reached the Danish market, and the whisky is bottled without filtration or added colour, so everything the ground and the cask have given it remains in the glass.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Fresh barley and a light earthiness meet a sweetness of honey and ripe apples, with a hint of sea salt behind it.
Palate
Bold and cereal-driven, with notes of caramel and a lightly oily structure that carries the high strength well.
Finish
Long and lightly spiced, with a lingering sweetness that slowly gives way to a dry, salty close.
