Signatory Vintage knows what it's doing. When they select a cask from one of Speyside's most iconic distilleries and let it rest for 12 years in Oloroso sherry casks, the result is predictable in the best possible sense.

    Expert's Description

Speyside (M) 2011/2024 Signatory Vintage 12 Year Old is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky distilled in 2011 and bottled in 2024 by independent bottler Signatory Vintage. Matured in Oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 48.2% as part of Signatory's Small Batch series, Edition #11. The distillery behind the malt is Macallan — one of Speyside's most acclaimed names, whose fruity and sherry-driven character here expresses itself on Signatory's own terms.

An independent bottling like this provides access to an expression that does not necessarily follow the distillery's own brand or house style. This is the Macallan character seen from the outside — a different experience from opening a bottle from the official range.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

A textbook sherry bomb with bags of raisins, figs, nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger. Dark sugar, walnut and golden syrup. Bright cherry top notes.

    Palate

Dried fruits lead with raisins and dried plums. More oak than the nose with notes of charcoal and dark chocolate. Cherry and sherry-soaked orange zest.

    Finish

Medium to long finish with dark fruits and gentle oak bitterness. The sherry cask's deep imprint lingers for a considerable time.

Frequently Asked Questions about Speyside (M) 2011/2024 Signatory Vintage 12 Year Old

What is Speyside (M) 2011/2024 Signatory Vintage, and who distilled it?

It is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky distilled by Macallan in 2011 and bottled in 2024 by independent bottler Signatory Vintage. The "(M)" designation in the product name refers to Macallan as the distillery. Signatory matured the whisky in Oloroso sherry casks and bottled it at 48.2% as part of Small Batch Edition #11.

What is the difference between an official Macallan bottling and this Signatory release?

An official Macallan bottling is produced and blended by the distillery itself, with a focus on consistency and the brand's own expression. Signatory selects individual casks or small batches and bottles them as they are — without standardising strength or character. This gives more direct access to the fundamental character of the Macallan distillate.

What do Oloroso sherry casks do to the flavour?

Oloroso is a Spanish sherry cask that typically contributes dark dried fruits, raisins, figs and nuts. Unlike Pedro Ximénez, Oloroso is not sweet — it is drier and nuttier, with rich depth and complex dark fruit notes that leave a clear imprint on this 12 year old Small Batch.

Is it worth buying Macallan from an independent bottler rather than directly from Macallan?

Definitely for the curious. A Signatory Small Batch gives access to Macallan's distillate from a specific distillation and bottling year — a different experience from the polished consistency of Macallan's official range. You encounter the raw material in a new way.

What is Small Batch Edition, and what does Edition #11 mean?

Signatory's Small Batch series brings together whisky from a limited number of casks from the same distillery. Edition #11 is the eleventh release in this specific series — each number is a unique batch with its own cask combination and flavour profile.

What is the best way to enjoy the Speyside (M) 2011/2024 Signatory Vintage?

It works very well neat at room temperature. A single drop of water opens the fruity notes further and gives the sherry cask character more room to express itself. A Glencairn glass is recommended to concentrate the aromas. Avoid heavy dilution — 48.2% is a well-judged strength that keeps the structure intact.
