An Dúlamán Irish Maritime Gin is an Irish gin distilled on eleven botanicals, including five types of seaweed, and bottled at 43.2%.
The gin comes from Sliabh Liag Distillers in County Donegal, where the family behind the distillery released their tribute to the Donegal coast in 2017. Alongside six classic gin botanicals, five locally harvested seaweeds are used - sweet kombu, dulse, pepper dulse, channel wrack and carrageen - giving the gin its distinctive maritime character.
The name An Dúlamán comes from an Irish folk song about two seaweed gatherers, and the dark bottle is inspired by glass shards found along the Donegal coast after the wrecking of Spanish Armada ships in 1588.
The gin is distilled in tiny batches and bottled by hand, with the batch and bottle number written directly on the neck label.
Tasting notes
Nose
Salty sea air and seaweed meet piney juniper and a lightly sweet note.
Palate
The palate is complex, with an umami-like layer from the seaweed balanced against classic juniper and a light sweetness.
Finish
The finish is dry and salty, with a lingering trace of the sea.
