Single Malt Whisky from Ardnamurchan Distillery

Single Malt Whisky from Ardnamurchan Distillery

The west coast of the United Kingdom – and thus Scotland – has gained a new tourist attraction. On the windswept Ardnamurchan Peninsula in the far west of Scotland, a new distillery has been built. The location is Glenbeg, beautifully situated with a view across the water in Glenmore Bay towards the Isle of Mull. The name, not surprisingly, is Ardnamurchan Distillery, and it is an impressive story in every way. From the inception of the idea to the realization of the project, it took seven years of dedicated work. The distillery was ready for its grand opening in July 2014 and has since been producing plenty of fine new make spirit.

Ardnamurchan was established by Adelphi, an independent whisky bottler with roots dating back to 1826. From the very beginning, the distillery's aim has been to produce an authentic Highland whisky with deep respect for nature and the local community. Production is grounded in traditional methods but is carried out with a clear focus on the future – both in terms of sustainability and quality.

The distillery primarily works with ex-bourbon and sherry casks but also experiments with other types such as port, wine, and rum casks to achieve nuanced and complex flavor profiles. Both peated and unpeated barley are used, allowing for a wide range of expressions under one roof. The whisky is matured in traditional dunnage warehouses, where the cool and humid West Highland climate provides optimal conditions for aging.

About Ardnamurchan Distillery:

The west coast of the UK - and Scotland - has a new tourist attraction. On the windswept peninsula Ardnamurchan in the far west of Scotland, the independent bottler Adelphi fronted by Alex Bruce has built a new distillery. The site is called Glenbeg and is beautifully situated overlooking the waters of Glenmore Bay to the Isle of Mull. The name is, unsurprisingly, Ardnamurchan Distillery, and it's an impressive story by any measure. From the conception of the idea to the realization of the project, seven years of dedicated work have passed. The distillery was ready for its grand opening in July 2014 and has since produced lots of lovely råsprit.
