Montrachet isn't just a wine name, it's one of Burgundy's most celebrated white wine vineyards. Riedel has given the glass a bowl every bit as big and generous as the reputation the vineyard has earned.

    The Expert's Description

Riedel Vinum Montrachet is a machine-blown White Wine Glass in Crystal Glass from the Austrian glassmaking house Riedel, designed specifically for full-bodied, oak-aged whites such as Montrachet and other great white Burgundies.

The glass belongs to the Vinum line, which Georg J. Riedel drew up in 1986 to make varietal-specific glassware available to everyday wine lovers. In keeping with the Vinum line's red wine glasses, the Montrachet glass has an unusually large bowl for a white wine glass, precisely because full-bodied, aged white Burgundies need the same room as a powerful red.

    Design & Material

The wide, roomy bowl looks more like a red wine glass than a typical white wine glass and gives the buttery, nutty notes from oak ageing room to fully unfold, without the wine's freshness drowning in alcohol.

    Use & Recommendation

Use the glass for great, oak-aged whites from Burgundy and similar full-bodied Chardonnay styles from other wine regions. It is dishwasher safe and can go straight into the dishwasher.

    Did You Know?

Montrachet is one of Burgundy's most celebrated grand cru vineyards for white wine, producing some of the world's most sought-after Chardonnay. That Riedel named a glass after this exact vineyard is a practical hint that it's built for full-bodied, age-worthy whites, not an easy-drinking everyday bottle.

Frequently Asked Questions about Riedel Vinum Montrachet

Why is the bowl so large for a white wine glass?

Full-bodied, oak-aged white Burgundies such as Montrachet need just as much room to breathe as a powerful red, which is why this glass has an unusually large bowl.

Does the glass only suit wine from the Montrachet vineyard?

No, it works for any great, oak-aged white wine, including full-bodied Chardonnay styles from other parts of the world.

Can the glass go in the dishwasher?

Yes, the glass is dishwasher safe like the rest of the Vinum line.

What's the difference between this and Riedel's regular Chardonnay glass?

The Montrachet glass has an even larger bowl and is drawn specifically for the most full-bodied, age-worthy whites, while the Chardonnay / Chablis glass covers a wider range from light to full-bodied.

Where can I see the rest of Riedel's glassware?

You will find the whole range in our Riedel Glassware selection.
