Some dinners have five courses and five different wines. Others just have good food and one bottle that has to see you through the whole meal. Riedel Vinum Gourmet was drawn for the second situation - the glass that handles most things without letting any dish down.

    The Expert's Description

Riedel Vinum Gourmet is a machine-blown, all-purpose Wine Glass in Crystal Glass from the Austrian glassmaking house Riedel, designed to follow a multi-course dinner without needing a new glass for every wine.

When Georg J. Riedel drew up the Vinum line in 1986, the goal was to turn varietal-specific glassware into an everyday item. The Gourmet glass is the essence of that idea - a simple, well-balanced glass not built for one specific grape, but for following the food from starter to main.

    Design & Material

The bowl is neither as wide as the Burgundy glass nor as tall as the Bordeaux glass in the line, but lands somewhere in between, so it handles both lighter and fuller wines without needing to be swapped out mid-meal.

    Use & Recommendation

Use the glass as the natural choice for a dinner where the wine has to match several different dishes, or when you simply want one solid glass instead of a whole set of specialised shapes. It is dishwasher safe and can go straight into the dishwasher.

    Did You Know?

It was precisely the idea of turning varietal-specific glassware into something everyone could use every day that led Georg J. Riedel to design the whole Vinum line as a machine-blown collection in 1986. The Gourmet glass sits closest to that original idea of one versatile glass for everyday dinners.

Frequently Asked Questions about Riedel Vinum Gourmet

What makes the Gourmet glass different from the other Vinum shapes?

Where most other glasses in the line are cut for one specific grape, Gourmet is an all-purpose glass built to follow a whole dinner with several courses and wine styles.

Is the glass a good choice if I only want to own one wine glass?

Yes, that is exactly the situation it was designed for - one solid, well-balanced glass instead of a whole set of specialised shapes.

Can the glass go in the dishwasher?

Yes, the glass is dishwasher safe like the rest of the Vinum line.

Can the glass also be used for white wine?

Yes, the shape is balanced enough to handle both lighter whites and fuller reds.

Where can I see the rest of Riedel's glassware?

You will find the whole range in our Riedel Glassware selection, if you later want to add more specialised shapes.
