A glass that spans two very different wine styles – aromatic German Riesling and spicy Californian Zinfandel – needs a shape that can do both without compromise.

    The Expert's Description

The Riedel Sommeliers Riesling / Zinfandel 4400/15 is a hand-blown wine glass from the Austrian glassmaker Riedel's Sommeliers line, made from crystal glass. Only a handful of Riedel's glasses are designed for two different grapes at once – most Sommeliers glasses are tailored to a single wine style, which makes the Riesling / Zinfandel glass a rare exception in the line. Even so, it's still hand-blown to the same high standard as the rest of the Sommeliers family.

    Design & Material

The bowl's proportions are a hand-blown compromise between a typical white wine glass and a red wine glass – neither too narrow nor too wide – making the glass versatile enough to hold two very different grapes without underselling either.

    Use & Recommendation

Use the glass for both German Riesling and American Zinfandel – two grapes that rarely share a glass, but both benefit from the bowl's balanced shape. Hand washing is essential; the thin, hand-blown crystal cannot go in a dishwasher.
