The old trade routes of the West Indies live on in the name Old St. Croix, the Danish house once known as A.H. Riise. Black Barrel Navy Spiced is the house's take on the dark, spiced style navies once carried home from the Caribbean.
Expert Description
Old St. Croix Black Barrel Navy Spiced is a Spiced Spirit Drink based on rum from the Caribbean, bottled at 40%.
The base is a rum-based spirit aged in heavily charred, black barrels, which gives the name Black Barrel. The heavy charring of the oak reduces tannins and opens up the wood's pores, creating a softer, rounder and more complex character than lightly charred casks. A spice blend is then added, leaning toward a classic Christmas-spiced style.
Old St. Croix is the new name for the traditional Danish house A.H. Riise, part of the legacy of Danish trading links to Saint Croix in the Danish West Indies, where the rum trade was once a central part of the Danish colonial trading network.
Tasting Notes
Nose
