In the sun-warmed bodegas of southern Spain, rows of ageing oak casks have shaped the character of Spanish brandy for generations. Napoleon VSOP Prestige stands in that tradition, dark as caramelised sugar, with a richness that hints at real time spent in wood.
Expert's Description
Napoleon VSOP Prestige is a Spanish brandy classified as VSOP, bottled as a Vintage edition at 38%.
The bottle belongs to the Spanish brandy tradition, where eaux-de-vie is matured through the Solera system – a network of linked cask rows in which younger distillate is gradually blended with older vintages each time spirit is drawn from the bottom casks. The method is especially associated with the brandy houses of the Jerez region in Andalusia, where it was historically refined alongside sherry production, and it remains one of the most defining features of Spanish brandy as a category.
The VSOP classification requires a minimum period of ageing, giving the brandy time to draw colour, tannin and rounded flavour from the oak. This particular bottling is released as a limited Vintage edition, setting it apart from the house's ongoing production.
The result is a dark, round brandy in which the Solera system's blending of vintages creates an even depth – a style found across much of classic Spanish brandy regardless of house.

Did You Know?
The word Solera comes from the Spanish suelo, meaning ground or floor – a reference to the fact that the oldest casks in the system always sit at the bottom row, closest to the ground.
