In 2011, the house of Lillet returned to something it had not touched in more than 50 years: a brand new colour. The result was a pale pink aperitif scented with rose petals and fresh berries.
Expert's Description
Lillet Rose Vermouth is a Rosé Vermouth from the Bordeaux region of France, made from a base of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sémillon grapes, with an alcohol content of 17%.
The house of Lillet Frères was founded in Podensac south of Bordeaux in 1872 by brothers Paul and Raymond Lillet. Lillet Rose was created in 2011 as the house's first new colour in over 50 years, and it shares the same base of Bordeaux wines and macerated citrus liqueurs as Lillet Blanc, with a short skin maceration to give it its pink colour, along with a small proportion of Lillet Rouge. The wine is aged for a year in oak casks before being flavoured with orange peel from Spain and Haiti, local fruit liqueurs from southwestern France and a touch of cinchona bark.
