The Leitz family has grown grapes in Rudesheim since 1744. When Johannes Leitz took over the estate in 1985 with just 3 hectares, he could hardly have foreseen that a couple of decades later he would become one of the pioneers behind the modern alcohol-free wine movement with the Eins Zwei Zero range.

    Expert's Description

Leitz Eins Zwei Zero Riesling is a German Sparkling Wine from Rheingau, Germany, made from Riesling with an alcohol content of 0%. Weingut Leitz makes the wine by first fermenting the grapes into a regular Riesling, after which the alcohol is gently removed through a vacuum process that avoids heavy heating and thereby best preserves the grape's typical aroma and taste. The name Eins Zwei Zero - one-two-zero in German - playfully refers to the journey from regular wine to the alcohol-free end result.
