Distillery: LagavulinAge: 8 years Type: Single Islay Malt Whisky Alc. strength: 48 % 70 cl. Other: Limited Edition #lagavulin200
Lagavulin / 8 years old / 70 cl. / 48 %Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Distillery Bottling Released in 2016 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the founding of Lagavulin distillery in 1816 by John Johnston. We are sure that this eight-year-old Lagavulin, which is a big and smoky, with sweet spice. The whisky is inspired by the visit of Alfred Barnard to the distillery in the 1880s when he tried an 'exceptionally fine' eight-year-old from the distillery.
Tasting notes from www.whiskyflasken.dk:Nose: Lots of smoke and sweetness. The smoke is medicinal and there are notes of seaweed and shellfish. Wet sand on the beach and a smell of a heavy wet fall day in the woods. Quite a bit of malt sweetness and some bitter apples. Some dried herbs like basil and oregano. You can sense that it is oily and there is a slight, very slight, hint of new make on the nose. The taste: Lots of smoke and richness. Charcoal and ash that tastes a little wet or damp. Some bitter fruit and a good shot of crushed black pepper. It's very oily and the longer it sits on the tongue, the smokier and sharper it gets. The maltiness and graininess from the nose carries over into the palette and it's all very cohesive. Not the most complex palette, but that's not a bad thing here. It's all finely orchestrated and quite excellent.Finish: Lovely long finish with pepper, tobacco and ash. A bit of the same malt sweetness that has been there all along.Score: 89/100
