Six bunches of grapes chalked onto a cask in the cellar were once a simple mark of quality. Today, those same six bunches have become the symbol of Graham's best-known Reserve Port.

    Expert's Description

Graham's Six Grapes Reserve Port is a Portuguese Reserve Ruby Port from the Douro Valley, aged in oak casks and bottled at 20%.

The name comes from an old practice in Graham's cellars, where the best casks were historically marked with six chalked bunches of grapes to highlight their quality. James Symington revived the style in the 1970s as a permanent part of the house's range, and Six Grapes has been Graham's signature wine ever since.

The wine is a blend of grapes from several of Graham's estates in the Douro Valley and is aged in cask longer than the house's Fine Ruby, giving it a fuller, more complex flavour without compromising the fresh berry fruit.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose offers fresh blackcurrant, blackberry and liquorice, with a touch of dark chocolate.

    Palate

The palate is full-bodied and well-structured, with spiced blackberry and cassis carried by soft tannins.

    Finish

The finish is long and rounded, closing with a last suggestion of black pepper.
