High above the Rio Torto, where the vines aren't sprayed with artificial treatments, the grapes must find their own strength to withstand drought and pests. The result is a Port that tastes of the Douro Valley without detours.

    Expert's Description

Graham's Natura Reserve Port is a Portuguese organic Reserve Port from the Douro Valley, aged in oak casks and bottled at 20%.

The grapes for Natura Reserve are organically farmed at Quinta das Lages in the Rio Torto Valley and on vineyards in the Vale da Vilarica, both part of the Symington family's estates in the Upper Douro. The plots sit at 150-350 metres altitude, where well-aerated, dry soil gives the vines good conditions to develop their own resistance to disease, without artificial fertiliser or pesticides.

The wine is a blend of classic Douro varieties including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Amarela. Graham's Natura was the house's first attempt at translating its classic Reserve style into fully certified organic production.

    Tasting Notes

    Palate

The palate is full and fruity, with distinct chocolate and ripe berries carried by a pleasant sweetness.

    Finish

The finish is long, with a last suggestion of roasted nuts.

    Did You Know?

Because the vines for Natura Reserve are grown without artificial treatments, they must build their own natural resistance to disease and drought — a farming method that demands far more of the grower than conventional viticulture.

Frequently Asked Questions about Graham's Natura Reserve organic Port

What does it mean that Natura Reserve is organic?

The grapes are grown without artificial fertiliser or chemical treatments on selected plots in the Rio Torto Valley and Vale da Vilarica, where the vines instead develop their own natural resistance.

How does Natura Reserve differ from Graham's other Reserve Ports?

In flavour, it sits close to the house's classic Reserve style, but it's made entirely from organically grown grapes on certified plots.

How long does the bottle keep after opening?

Like most Ruby styles, it stays fresh for up to a couple of weeks after opening if stored cool with the cork replaced.

What food pairs well with Natura Reserve?

Its full, chocolate-leaning style pairs well with dark chocolate, nuts or a simple cheese board.

Is Natura Reserve a good introduction to Port?

Yes, its approachable, fruity style makes it a good starting point for anyone new to Port, while also appealing to the organically minded drinker.
