There's a reason Ruby is the style most people meet first when they taste Port for the first time: fresh, direct and full of the same dark berry fruit that gave the wine its name.

    Expert's Description

Graham's Fine Ruby Port is a Portuguese Ruby Port from the Douro Valley, aged in oak casks and bottled at 19%.

The Ruby style is aged for the shortest time of all Graham's Ports, precisely to preserve the fresh, dark berry fruit of the grapes. This short ageing means the wine keeps its deep ruby-red colour rather than developing the golden hues seen in a Tawny.

Fine Ruby is the house's most accessible Ruby expression and serves as a natural entry point into Graham's other, more complex Ruby styles such as Six Grapes and Crusted.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose is full of ripe red and black berries, with a touch of violets.

    Palate

The palate is juicy with distinct black cherry, carried by a fine balance and fresh acidity.

    Finish

The finish is intense and relatively long, closing with a last touch of dark fruit.

    Did You Know?

Because Ruby Port is aged for such a short time, it's one of the few Port styles where the grape variety itself — rather than the cask — leaves the clearest mark on the flavour.

Frequently Asked Questions about Graham's Fine Ruby Port

Why is the wine called Ruby?

The name comes from the deep ruby-red colour the wine keeps thanks to its short ageing, which protects the fresh fruit from excessive oxidation.

How does Fine Ruby differ from Six Grapes?

Fine Ruby is the house's most straightforward Ruby expression, while Six Grapes is a more complex Reserve style with longer ageing and a deeper flavour.

Should Fine Ruby be served cold?

It's best enjoyed at room temperature or lightly chilled, around 16-18°C.

How long does an opened bottle of Fine Ruby keep?

Since it's made to preserve fresh fruit, it should be enjoyed within a couple of weeks of opening for the best flavour.

What food pairs well with Fine Ruby?

It pairs well with dark chocolate, red berries or a simple dessert with berries and cream.
