Not every Port is built for the armchair and long reflection. Blend No. 12 is made for ice, tonic water and a summer evening where fruit is the first thing you notice.

    Expert's Description

Graham's Blend No. 12 Ruby Port is a Portuguese Ruby Port from the Douro Valley, matured in stainless steel and bottled at 19%.

The Port is composed specifically to be drunk young and fresh, often on the rocks or mixed with tonic water. Unlike Graham's aged tawny styles, Blend No. 12 spends only a short time in stainless steel, which preserves the dark, fresh berry fruit and avoids the oxidative notes a cask-aged Port develops.

Graham's was founded in 1820 by brothers William and John Graham and has belonged to the Symington family's portfolio of Port houses since 1970. Blend No. 12 is one of the house's newer releases, designed as an entry point to Port for drinkers more used to cocktails than dessert wine.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose offers fresh raspberries and strawberries, spiced with a touch of mountain herbs and dark chocolate.

    Palate

The palate is lively and concentrated, with ripe cherries and plums, fresh acidity and a touch of pepper that gives direction to the berry-driven profile.

    Finish

The finish is soft and light, closing with a hint of blackberry that makes the wine ideal for mixing.

    Did You Know?

Blend No. 12 was developed specifically for mixing, including in the Portonic, a drink where Port is topped with tonic water and ice. The name 'No. 12' refers to the internal lot number the Port was given during development in Graham's cellars, a number that stuck when the wine went to market.

Frequently Asked Questions about Graham's Blend No. 12 Ruby Port

What does Graham's Blend No. 12 Ruby Port taste like?

It's fresh and fruity with raspberry, strawberry and ripe cherries, spiced with a touch of mountain herbs and dark chocolate. The palate is lively with fresh acidity and a lightly peppery finish.

How is Blend No. 12 best enjoyed?

It's made for mixing, for example with ice and tonic water in a Portonic, but can also be enjoyed on its own as a light, chilled aperitif.

What's the difference between Blend No. 12 and a classic ruby Port?

Blend No. 12 is composed specifically for mixology, with a focus on freshness and low tannin, while a classic ruby is often drunk on its own and has a fuller, more concentrated style.

At what temperature should it be served?

Best served chilled, ideally at 8-10°C, so the freshness and berry fruit come through most clearly.

    What is Graham's history?

The house was founded in 1820 by brothers William and John Graham in Porto and has belonged to the Symington family since 1970, who run several well-known Port houses in the Douro Valley.

How long does an opened bottle keep?

As a young, stainless-steel-aged Port, it's best drunk within a couple of weeks of opening to preserve the fresh fruit.
