Apples, smoke and liquorice meet decades of Norwegian aquavit craftsmanship in a single glass. Gammel Opland is a true classic, accompanying Norwegians since 1872 – an aquavit with depth, warmth and a signature style that only grows more refined over time.
Expert description Gammel Opland Norsk Akvavit 41.5% is a traditional, cask‑matured Norwegian aquavit based on potato spirit and seasoned with caraway, anise and fennel. It is matured in sherry and Madeira casks, giving it its characteristic depth, warmth and gentle sweetness. The aquavit is produced by Arcus, Norway’s leading aquavit house, which also stands behind classics such as Lysholm and Linie.
Tasting notes Nose Complex and aromatic with ripe apples, vanilla, toffee, honey, orange zest, anise, dill seeds and coriander. The cask maturation adds clear notes of dried fruit, oak and lightly oxidative wine.
Palate Soft, rounded and harmonious with bittersweet citrus, caramelised fruit, birch bark, warm baking spices and vanilla. The sherry and Madeira casks contribute raw oak, gentle sweetness and depth, while caraway and anise sit elegantly in the background.
Finish Long and balanced with notes of caraway, anise and oak.
