El Dorado 8 Year Cask Aged is a Guyana Rum matured in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 40%.
The rum comes from Demerara Distillers in Guyana, which distils on a collection of historic stills, including the Port Mourant pot still and the Enmore wooden coffey still. After distillation, the rum is matured for at least 8 years in casks that previously held bourbon, giving it a full-bodied, well-developed character that has made the release one of the best-selling age-stated rums from Guyana.
Tasting notes
Nose
Balanced between fruit and confection with tobacco, cloves and dried cherry, underpinned by caramel toffee plus a hint of dried stone fruit and flambéed banana.
Palate
Soft and silky with toffee, ginger and stewed red fruit, plus honeyed fruit cake, vanilla, caramel and a touch of orange marmalade.
Finish
Clove and charred oak on a dry, spicy finish, where caramel and vanilla linger longest.
