What happens when a classic cognac is left to rest a little longer in casks that most recently held a sweet white wine from Gascony? Drouet has tried it, and the result is a small, experimental release beyond the usual.

    Expert's Description

Drouet Small Batch Pacherenc Cask Finish is a French Cognac from Petite Champagne, bottled at 45%.

The cognac comes from Cognac Drouet, the family house that has run its estate in Grande and Petite Champagne since 1848. This release is part of the house's Small Batch series, where smaller lots experiment with unconventional finishing methods.

After standard ageing, the cognac is transferred to casks that most recently held Pacherenc du Vic Bilh - a sweet white wine from southwest France, close to the Armagnac region. The finish gives the cognac an extra layer of sweetness and fruit on top of its classic character.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose is sweet with notes of ripe stone fruit and a touch of honey from the Pacherenc casks.

    Palate

The palate is full and round with a clear sweetness that balances the classic cognac structure.

    Finish

The finish is long and warm with a lingering sweetness.
