The word "compañero" means friend or companion in Spanish, and that is exactly the role this small miniature bottle plays: a trusty sidekick for tasting on the go.

    Expert description

Companero Extra Añejo is a Spirit Drink from Panama, solera-aged for up to 12 years and bottled at a powerful 54%.

The rum is part of the Companero series from the Danish independent bottler 1423, which has imported and released rum from around the world from its headquarters in Ringe since 2008. This Extra Añejo is column-distilled in Panama and matured through the solera system in fresh ex-bourbon casks of American white oak, giving it a heavy, chocolate-forward character far bolder than most standard rums from the region. This bottle is a 5cl miniature, perfect for getting acquainted with the style.

    Did you know?

1423 takes its name from a specific year: 1423 is when sugarcane truly began its journey from the Mediterranean towards the Atlantic islands and later the Caribbean, which would later become the birthplace of rum.

Frequently asked questions about Companero Extra Añejo

    What is Companero Extra Añejo?

It is a Spirit Drink from Panama, aged through the solera system for up to 12 years and bottled at 54%. It is released by the Danish bottler 1423 and available here as a 5cl miniature.

What does Companero Extra Añejo taste like?

Creamy and heavy, with dark chocolate, toasted oak and a sharp orange note, carried by the high strength and a long, warm finish.

Why is it called a Spirit Drink and not a rum?

The solera-based maturation results in a higher sugar content than EU regulations allow for the term rum, which is why it is correctly labelled Spirit Drink.

What does solera ageing mean for Companero Extra Añejo?

The solera system continuously blends younger and older vintages, so the 12-year age refers to an average rather than a fixed minimum for every drop in the bottle.

Who is behind the Companero series?

The series is released by 1423, a Danish independent bottler headquartered in Ringe that has specialised in rum from around the world since 2008.

Is a 5cl miniature enough to properly taste the style?

Yes, a miniature is ideal for getting acquainted with a bold rum like this before potentially investing in a full bottle.
