Golden light from the hills of Piedmont, a hint of cinchona bark and orange peel in the glass – the taste of an aperitif whose recipe hasn't changed in over a century.

    Expert's Description

Cocchi Americano Bianco Vermouth is an Italian aromatised white wine from Piedmont, fortified and flavoured with cinchona bark, gentian and citrus, bottled at 16.5% ABV.

The vermouth was created in 1891 by Giulio Cocchi, a young pastry chef who established his business in the town of Asti in north-western Italy. After blending the botanicals, the wine is left to marry for a year before bottling, a process unchanged since the recipe's creation. Today, Giulio Cocchi is run by the Bava family, themselves distinguished producers of Moscato d'Asti.

What is Cocchi Americano Bianco Vermouth?

It's an Italian aromatised white wine from Piedmont, flavoured with cinchona bark, gentian and citrus, and bottled at 16.5% ABV.

It offers ripe fruit notes of pear and peach, honeyed sweetness and a bitter, herbal finish from gentian and cinchona bark.

What's the best way to serve Cocchi Americano?

Classically it's enjoyed chilled over ice with a slice of orange, but it's also used as a substitute for Kina Lillet in cocktails like the Vesper Martini and Corpse Reviver No. 2.

Where traditional vermouth is typically wormwood-based, Cocchi Americano belongs to the quinquina family, where cinchona bark takes the lead role and delivers a more pronounced bitterness.

How long does an opened bottle keep?

As an aromatised wine, it should be stored cool and dark after opening and is best enjoyed within a few months to preserve its fresh aromas.
