The Italian bottler Valinch & Mallet found a cask at the Clarendon distillery whose lychee and mango aromas are so intense the rum almost tastes as it smells.
Expert Description
Clarendon 2008/2021 Valinch & Mallet 12 Year is a Jamaica Rum, distilled at the Clarendon distillery in 2008, bottled from a single cask by Valinch & Mallet in 2021 and bottled at 56.1%.
Clarendon, also known as Monymusk, is one of Jamaica's oldest distilleries and known for powerful, ester-rich pot still rums. Valinch & Mallet, an Italian bottler founded by Davide Romano and Fabio Ermoli, selected this cask for their "Spirit of Art" series, where each bottle carries a unique artwork by a young artist. The 12 years of ageing have given the rum an unusual fullness of tropical fruit combined with a pronounced oaky structure.
The result is a complex, dry and woody rum with a dominant lychee character carried by dark chocolate and coffee bitterness.

Nose
Intense lychee and mango, with caramel, red fruit and a touch of black banana.
