Since 1974, Château de Cayx in Cahors has been the Danish royal family's French home - bought by Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik the very summer they heard the château was for sale. This bottle carries the Queen's own watercolour on the label.
Expert's Description
Château de Cayx 2017 Les Aquarelles de Majesté Magnum is a Red Wine from Cahors, France made from Malbec, bottled at 13.5% ABV.
The wine comes from 35-year-old vines on just seven hectares of south-facing plots with clay-limestone soil - conditions that give the Malbec grape ideal conditions for depth and complexity. The vintage was bottled in a limited number, exclusively as magnums, and the label is illustrated by Her Majesty Queen Margrethe with a motif of the vineyards surrounding the château, making the bottle a collector's item in its own right.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Ripe berries, warm spices and a discreet earthy note, typical of Cahors' "black wine".
Palate
Rich and concentrated, with dark berries - especially blackcurrant and blackberry - spiced nuances and a lightly sweet fullness.
Finish
Long and mature, with an elegant tannin structure giving both power and finesse.
Serving & Food Pairing
Serve at 16-18°C, ideally decanted about an hour before serving. The wine pairs with game, beef tenderloin and mature cheeses - or lay it down, as it will happily develop further with time.
