Deep in the Cahors district, where the river Lot winds through golden vineyards, stands Château de Cayx, the chateau the Danish royal couple made their French home. From here comes Rogomme du Prince de Danemark, a liqueur that carries the chateau's story forward in every glass.

    Expert description

Château de Cayx Rogomme du Prince de Danemark Liqueur is a French dessert liqueur at 17% ABV, produced at Château de Cayx in Cahors, France. The 50 CL bottle pays tribute to the estate's long history, which dates back to the 15th century, when it was originally built to control navigation on the river Lot. The Danish royal couple bought Château de Cayx in 1974, and Prince Henrik in particular left his mark on the estate through extensive renovations and a deep passion for wine and art. Under winemaker Alexandre Gélis, quality has risen markedly, and the south-facing plots planted mainly with Malbec today form the foundation for the estate's wines and liqueurs.

The name "Rogomme" is an old French term meaning "a blend", and the liqueur is exactly that: a composition of grape must and grape brandy from the chateau's own Malbec grapes, left to mature together. The result is a nut-brown, full-bodied liqueur with natural sweetness balanced by a light acidity, a style reminiscent of the classic French vin de liqueur, carrying Château de Cayx's own signature.

    Taste

The nose offers dark berries, roasted nuts, honey and a touch of spiced gingerbread, while the palate unfolds with notes of raisins, candied fruit, mandarin and a warm caramel sweetness. The finish is long and soft with a closing touch of cinnamon and cloves.
