Caol Ila 33 Year Old – The Kinship Series – Single Cask by Hunter Laing
Released in 2023 as part of Hunter Laing’s prestigious Kinship Series, this 33-year-old Caol Ila is a masterfully matured Islay single malt that radiates elegance, complexity, and coastal character. Aged in a single refill bourbon hogshead and bottled at natural cask strength, it showcases a refined balance between Caol Ila’s signature smoke and the depth developed over decades of maturation.
Nose: Gentle peat smoke with notes of caramel, stewed fruits, soft beeswax, and a salty breeze that instantly evokes Islay’s rugged shores.
Palate: Smooth and layered, with pronounced maritime salinity. Hints of seaweed, fresh oysters, and ocean air mingle with delicately integrated smoke. Deeper notes of oak, dried fruit, and a subtle touch of medicinal herbs emerge as it develops on the palate.
Finish: Long, leathery, and satisfying, with notes of worn leather, glowing peat embers, and a lingering salty finish.
Hunter Laing & Co., the independent bottler behind the Kinship Series, is known for its uncompromising approach to quality and its ability to source and bottle some of Scotland’s rarest and most characterful casks.
