Along Sardinia's salt-kissed coast, somewhere between the wild juniper scrub and the golden saffron fields, Silvio Carta distils a gin that carries the whole island in a single glass. Boigin Saffron is the golden sibling of the house's classic gin — coloured and spiced by one of the most sought-after ingredients on earth.
Expert's description
Boigin Saffron is an Italian Gin from the Silvio Carta distillery on Sardinia, double distilled in traditional copper pot stills with fresh Sardinian juniper and finished with genuine DOP saffron, bottled at 40% ABV.
The gin builds on the house's classic Boigin Gin, where juniper, citrus peel and Mediterranean herbs are joined by saffron threads from the island's own DOP-protected growing area around San Gavino Monreale. The saffron alone is responsible for the gin's deep, golden colour.
Behind the bottle stands the family-run Silvio Carta, founded in the early 1950s in Baratili San Pietro on Sardinia. The company first made its name with Vernaccia di Oristano, and has since expanded into Mirto, Vermouth, Limoncello and a range of gins, all rooted in the island's own ingredients. Boigin Saffron won Bronze at The International Wine & Spirit Competition in 2022 and received a Red Seal at The WineHunter Award in both 2020 and 2021.

Did you know?
The saffron in Boigin Saffron comes from the area around San Gavino Monreale on Sardinia — the only DOP-protected saffron zone in the whole of Italy. Every flower is hand-picked in the early morning, and only three red stigmas from each bloom become the actual spice.
