Belvedere Ultra Premium is a Polish Vodka made from Dankowskie rye, distilled four times and bottled at 40% in a 175 cl bottle.

The large format is aimed at the host. An extra litre and a half over the standard means you do not have to disappear into the kitchen for a fresh bottle halfway through a round, and every drink comes from the same bottle all evening. The weight is noticeable, but you can still hold it by the neck with one hand if you support the base.

The liquid is the regular house expression. The rye is Dankowskie from Polish fields, the water comes from artesian wells beneath Polmos Żyrardów, and distillation runs four times: once at an agricultural distillery and three times through column stills at the plant in Żyrardów. No additives, no sugar, no glycerol.

In company it is the rye that does the work. It gives the vodka enough body that a Moscow Mule or a Cosmopolitan does not simply taste of whatever was poured on top. When drinks are being built one after another, it helps to have a base you can still detect in glass number five.

Tasting notes

Nose

Dry grain aroma with baked bread and a little cream caramel. A cool mineral pull sits underneath.

Palate

Full and lightly oily. The rye arrives first as mild sweetness, then as a clear peppered warmth across the middle of the tongue.

Finish

Dry and spiced, with a touch of bitterness at the edge. It lets go slowly.

Is it the same vodka as in the small bottle?

Yes, entirely the same. The same Dankowskie rye, the same four distillations, the same water and the same 40%. Only the volume and the size of the bottle change.

What makes the large bottle good for entertaining?

It keeps the pace up. You avoid opening new bottles mid round, every drink is built from the same liquid, and the bottle can stay out as part of the table. It is also easier to keep one bottle cold than three.

How many drinks does 175 cl make?

At 4 cl per drink you get around forty-three servings. That covers a party with room to spare, or a whole season behind the home bar if cocktails happen at weekends.

How do you keep it cold all evening?

Stand it in a tall bucket of ice and water rather than ice alone — water conducts cold far better than air. A couple of tablespoons of salt in the water drops the temperature further. That saves moving the bottle between freezer and table.

Why is the glass frosted?

So the image reads. The matte surface scatters the light, which makes the palace and the trees stand out, and it also hides fingerprints on a bottle that gets lifted many times in an evening. The frosting has no bearing on the liquid.
