"Abuelo" means grandfather in Spanish - a name that points directly to the solera tradition Panama's most famous rum brand is built on.
Expert Description
Abuelo XV Tawny Port Cask Finish is a dark Panama Rum, 15 years old with a finishing period on ex-tawny port casks, bottled at 40% in a 20 cl bottle.
Abuelo XV is the distillery's classic 15-year rum, which in this release has received an additional maturation on casks that previously held tawny port. The port casks add a sweeter, more red-berry character on top of the round, vanilla-forward base from the long Panama ageing. The 20 cl format makes the bottle ideal for trying the style before committing to a full bottle.
Abuelo is produced by Varela Hermanos in Panama and is one of the country's most acclaimed rum brands, known for its soft, approachable style.
