Braunstein opened in Køge in 2005. Brothers Michael and Rudi Braunstein were not the first to brew beer in Denmark, but they were early with Danish whisky. Festival 2014 Peated is a snapshot of what came out of the still that year — smoky, Danish, and bottled at 3 cl for those who want to taste before committing.

    Expert description

Braunstein Peated Festival 2014 is a 3 cl sample of Danish Single Malt Whisky at 42%, produced by Braunstein Destilleri in Køge. It is a peated expression from the distillery's Festival Edition series, released in connection with Danish whisky events. The 3 cl sample size is ideal for forming an impression of the smoky side of Braunstein's production. Braunstein is one of Denmark's oldest whisky distilleries and has since 2005 combined beer and spirits under one roof.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Light smoke and sweet malt. Braunstein's peated expression is far from Islay intensity — the smoke is subtle and woven into a fresh malt base. Light citrus and a hint of ash.

    Palate

Fresh and lightly smoked. Sweet malt in the background with light fruit and a soft, slightly earthy character. The smoke does not rise but remains consistently present.

    Finish

Short to medium. Smoke and sweet malt quietly linger.

    Did you know?

Braunstein was one of the first distilleries in Denmark to experiment with peated whisky. Most people think of Islay when they hear "peated", but Braunstein shows that smoke can be used with a far more restrained and Nordic hand.

Frequently asked questions about Braunstein Peated Festival 2014

What is a Festival Edition whisky?

A Festival Edition is a limited release produced for a specific whisky event or festival. Braunstein releases Festival Editions for major Danish whisky events. These expressions are typically produced in extremely limited quantities and are not available through normal distribution.

What does "Peated" mean in this context?

Peated whisky is made with peated malt — barley dried over peat fire, which gives the whisky a smoky character. Braunstein's peated expression is at the milder end of the scale compared to Islay, for example. Smoke is a subtle element here, not a dominant feature.

    What is Braunstein Destilleri?

Braunstein is a Danish micro-distillery and brewery in Køge, founded in 2005 by brothers Michael and Rudi Braunstein. They are one of Denmark's oldest whisky distilleries and are known for combining brewing and distilling knowledge under one roof.

    Why only 3 cl?

A 3 cl sample allows you to taste and evaluate a whisky without committing to a full bottle. It is ideal for tasting events, comparative tastings, or for whisky enthusiasts wanting to map out Braunstein's peated style.

    What else does Braunstein produce?

Braunstein has a broad portfolio of whiskies across series including their Library Editions and Warehouse Editions, plus beer from their brewery. They are known for experimental expressions and versatile production of Danish malt spirits.

Is Braunstein Peated Festival 2014 still available?

Festival Editions are released in very limited quantities and are typically not available through normal distribution. The 3 cl sample is an opportunity to experience an otherwise hard-to-find expression from Braunstein.
