In 1872, Simon Rutte opened a bar in the Dutch port town of Dordrecht and set up a distillery in the back room. Today the bar is a shop, but the recipes and craftsmanship remain largely unchanged.
Expert's description
Rutte Dry Gin is a Dutch Dry Gin distilled by Distilleerderij Rutte in Dordrecht and bottled at 43%.
Dordrecht was once an important trading town with access to spices, grain and wine via the water, making it a natural home for a botanical distiller.
Rutte is known for using everything nature offers: herbs and spices, but also fresh fruit, peels, nuts, roots and flowers. Dry Gin is built on juniper, celery leaf, coriander seed, angelica root, hand-peeled orange zest and cardamom.
Celery leaf, a different plant from ordinary salad celery, gives the gin a distinctive crisp, green note that has become one of Rutte's trademarks.
