Poli Sarpa Oro Grappa 30 Anniversario 1991–2021 Special Edition Italy 40%
It began with grape pomace and a copper still in a cellar in Veneto. More than a century later, the same craftsmanship has become something close to Italian national pride in a bottle.
Poli Distillerie was founded in 1898 in Schiavon, in the heart of the Bassano del Grappa area — the region in northeastern Italy most closely tied to grappa’s name and heritage. The Poli family has distilled continuously for four generations, and today Jacopo, Giampaolo, Barbara and Andrea run what has become one of Italy’s most respected artisanal distilleries. It is also the only Italian distillery selected by Lonely Planet as one of the world’s ten craft distilleries worth visiting.
Sarpa Oro was created in 1991 and has since become the crown jewel of the Poli range. This 30th Anniversary Edition celebrates three decades of refinement. The raw material is marc — grape pomace — from 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, distilled in small batches in copper stills using a discontinuous steam method. The grappa then rests patiently in 225‑liter French oak barriques in the distillery’s underground cellars, where nearly 4,000 casks slowly work their magic. The maturation is around four years, and it shows.
Nose: Warm, golden and inviting. Exotic fruit, lemon and soft vanilla sweetness, followed by toasted hazelnuts, almonds and a delicate hint of licorice. Deep without being heavy. Palate: Smooth, rounded and gentle on the palate. Ripe, integrated fruit with caramel and toasted notes woven into a light, spicy warmth from the oak. Finish: Long and balanced. Sweetness and oak stay in harmony, ending with mild spice and lingering warmth.
