The first whisky is their Stauning Double Malt at 40.5%.
On the nose it is very calm and quiet. There is not much liveliness in it, but that is probably the point. It is nicely balanced. The malt comes clearly through on the nose. There is also plenty of sweetness and citrus to find. It makes me think of fresh bread from the bakery, and in a good way.

The palate is again very balanced. This is not a whisky that makes a lot of fuss about itself. The low strength means it disappears quickly. The new oak casks are fairly clearly tasted. The last part of the palate can be a touch bitter. A short finish.

All in all an okay whisky. A little dull if you are used to drinking whisky. But as a
starter at a tasting it is perfectly fine.

We are delighted to introduce the latest addition to the Stauning Whisky family, Stauning Double Malt, which unites the best of Danish rye and barley, matured in a mix of new oak and bourbon casks, resulting in a whisky with a smooth, balanced flavour profile.

That combination had the right finesse, softness, balance and characteristic Stauning character. The result is an extraordinarily well-balanced whisky with broad appeal. Both enthusiasts and those just stepping into the world of whisky will enjoy it.

You can drink it neat, serve it over ice in the new Stauning Whisky tumbler or add a Danish stamp to your favourite whisky cocktail. Stauning Double Malt does not disappoint.

ABV: 40.5%

Tasting notes
A smooth, balanced flavour profile with fruity, delicate notes of vanilla, citrus, honey, caramel, apple and red berries.

Worth knowing
Our whisky range holds a wide span of flavour profiles and styles, including spiced rye, robust cask strength malt, peated single malt and complex dark whisky for the late hours. We felt, though, that we were missing a gentle, delicate all-rounder. So after numerous attempts and blind tastings with friends, colleagues and family, we finally settled on a combination of equal parts malted rye whisky and single malt whisky.

The second whisky is their Dirty Bastard at 53.4%.
A completely different whisky that wants to get on in the world. This one has a lot of different aromas going on. That may be because a full three different cask types were used to make it.

First new oak casks, then Mexican mezcal casks and finally a Mexican hot chocolate stout cask that had held beer. A true bastard. A decent amount of sweetness mixed with the dark chocolate is the first thing you smell. You can nose this whisky for a long time. Whether you can pick out every nuance I do not know, but it is fun. The finish is lovely and the high strength prickles nicely on the tongue. Interesting and lovely.

For me it is the Dirty Bastard that is the most interesting. It has plenty of depth and just the right complexity. It is wild and wants to do a great deal. Some might say it tries too much.

But dull it is not.
