On Arran's wild west coast, where the Atlantic hits the cliffs below Lochranza, sits one of Scotland's youngest distilleries with a reputation growing faster than most.

This bottling comes from a single cask, hand-picked and bottled exclusively for the Danish market.

    Expert Description

Arran 2015/2024 Single Cask Denmark 9 Year Old is a Single Islands Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a 1st fill Oloroso hogshead and bottled at 60.2%.

The cask is a 1st fill Oloroso hogshead, meaning the sherry wood had never held whisky before this fill, so the full force of the Spanish oak goes straight into the spirit. Distilled in April 2015 and bottled in July 2024 after nine years of maturation, the whisky is bottled at cask strength, non-chill filtered and with natural colour. Only 326 bottles came from this single cask, and the entire batch is reserved for Denmark.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fresh citrus peel and spiced ginger meet a gentle sweetness of vanilla and ripe apricot, while the sherry cask lays a deep, dark base underneath it all.

    Palate

Rich and layered with dried fig and raisin, a soft caramel sweetness from the Oloroso wood, and a warm, spiced edge that carries through from first sip to last.

    Finish

Long and warming, closing on a final trace of dark chocolate and oak that softens slowly.

    Did You Know?

The Lochranza distillery went without a single legal distillation on Arran for more than 150 years – the first licensed still since 1837 only fired up in 1995, which makes even the oldest Arran bottlings fairly young in Scotch whisky history.

Frequently Asked Questions about Arran 2015/2024 Single Cask Denmark 9 Year Old

How rare is this Arran single cask?

Very rare – only 326 bottles came from this one Oloroso cask, and the entire batch is reserved for the Danish market.

    Is Arran 2015/2024 heavily sherried?

Yes, clearly so. The 1st fill Oloroso hogshead gives the whisky deep notes of dried fruit, caramel and dark chocolate.

    Is this whisky peated?

No. Arran typically distills unpeated malt, and this single cask carries no smoke – here it's the sherry cask that sets the tone.

How should I serve this whisky?

Pour it into a Glencairn glass at room temperature, and add a drop of water if you like. At 60.2% a little dilution opens up the citrus and spice notes.

Does it make a good gift for a whisky collector?

Yes. The limited bottle count and the exclusive Danish bottling make it a natural gift for someone who already knows and loves sherry-matured whisky.

    What makes Lochranza distillery special?

Lochranza sits on the north-western tip of Arran, and it has only been distilling since 1995. The close interplay between sea air and warehouse gives a fast, intense maturation, which shows clearly in this single cask.
