Ardnamurchan Distillery presents this year’s edition of The Midgie, a distinctive single malt whisky inspired by Scotland’s most persistent summer pest. This unique release is crafted with a well-balanced combination of 50% former American bourbon casks, 48% port barriques, and 2% sherry casks, resulting in a complex and nuanced flavor profile. The whisky consists of 75% unpeated and 25% peated spirit, creating a harmonious balance between fruity and smoky notes.  

This whisky opens with a layered nose, where cooked ham meets caramelized pineapple, prunes dipped in salt, and strawberry jam on a salted cracker. These rich aromas are rounded off with almond oil, coconut macaroon, and a fresh touch of green mint, adding a delicate lightness. The palate unfolds with a harmonious blend of salt-baked pear, meadowsweet, wildflowers, and lemon thyme. Deep notes of raisins, cherries, cocoa powder, and pink peppercorns add warmth, while the finish is elegant and lingering with a gentle wisp of flowing smoke, Himalayan salt, and redcurrant juice. The balanced mix of sweet and salty elements delivers a dry, long-lasting aftertaste that leaves a memorable impression.
