The fields around Råbelöf have been there since the 1400s. Winter wheat is sown in autumn, sits out the cold in Skåne soil and is harvested the following year — and the whole journey from that grain to this bottle covers less than a dozen kilometres as the crow flies.

    Expert description

Absolut Elyx Single Estate is a Swedish Vodka made from winter wheat grown on one estate, distilled in copper and bottled at 42.3% in a 175 cl bottle.

The large format is aimed at the bar and at the evenings where more than one round gets poured. The contents match the standard bottle: wheat from Råbelöf in Skåne, manual distillation in the 1921 copper column the house calls Column 51, and a bottling strength a couple of points above what a vodka usually carries.

The copper does the work. The metal reacts with the spirit along the way and strips out the compounds that would otherwise leave sharpness, and what remains has a texture closer to cream than to water. That is exactly why it performs in drinks with nowhere to hide — a Martini, a Vesper, Elyx over ice.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Soft cereal and fresh bread, with white chocolate and a layer of mellow spice behind.

    Palate

Rich and juicy. Macadamia first, then creamed cereal and a buttery sweetness that never tips into sugar.

    Finish

Long and rounded. The nutty note holds while the spice falls away slowly.

    Did you know?

Everything happens within fifteen miles. From the moment the wheat is sown at Råbelöf until the finished vodka stands in the bottle, Absolut Elyx keeps the entire chain inside a radius of roughly twenty-four kilometres around the distillery. Grain, water, distillation and bottling all sit in the same corner of Skåne.

Frequently asked questions about Absolut Elyx Single Estate

Is the large bottle the same as the 70 cl version?

Yes, the liquid is identical. The same winter wheat from Råbelöf, the same manual distillation in the 1921 copper column and the same 42.3% bottling strength. Only the format differs — 175 cl is built for the back bar rather than the front row of a shelf.

Is it worth choosing over an ordinary vodka?

It depends on what you use vodka for. Elyx is rare in the sense that very few distilleries still run a manual copper still, and the wheat comes from a single estate rather than from the open grain market. If you entertain often, or drink vodka neat and in clear drinks, the difference shows in every pour.

How many drinks does the bottle make?

Reckoning on 4 cl per drink, 175 cl gives around forty-three servings. That covers a large party or a whole season behind the home bar without you having to open a second bottle halfway through.

How should an opened large bottle be stored?

Upright, dark and cool. Vodka does not evaporate or develop in the bottle, so shelf life is effectively unlimited, though light and heat can wear on the aroma over a long stretch. Close the cap properly and there is nothing to worry about.

Is it too heavy for fruit driven drinks?

No, but that is not where it shows best. Sweetness and acidity from fruit juice mask the creamy texture. If you want it in something fruity, keep it dry — grapefruit and a dash of bitters rather than pineapple and syrup.

What does Single Estate on the label mean?

That the grain comes from one single property, Råbelöf in Skåne. Wheat has been grown on that land since the 1400s, and the consistency of that raw material is one reason the distillery can run the same recipe year after year.

Does it work as a gift?

Yes, particularly for someone with a home bar. The large bottle has weight and presence, and the story of the hand operated 1921 copper column tells itself. Find more ideas in our range of Vodka.
