  The 1848 Tricolour Celebration commemorates the flying of the Irish national flag for the first time. In 1848 the Irish tricolour was gifted to Thomas Francis Meagher by a group of French rebels sympathetic to Irish nationalism. This flag symbolises unification and brotherhood in Ireland.
